Guitarists nowadays make use of the complicated techniques in music in order to produce a better, rocksome styles and techniques, and "arpeggio" is one of them. Arpeggio is a style in music wherein you play every single note in a chord individually. Here's an example:
A - A C# E
Am - A C E
So, on that, I can say that A's arpeggio would be A,C#m, and E respectively. Now, modern guitarists use this technique in order to produce, as what I've said, a cool and better technique; and they've done that through sweep picking. Sweep picking is a style similar to strumming, but instead, play every note in that chord. Here's an example:
e-----------------9--12--9-------------------------------------
B------------10-------------10---------------------------------
G---------9----------------------9------------------------------
D-----11----------------------------11-------------------------
A--12-----------------------------------12--------------------
E---------------------------------------------------------------
See, that's an A major... Here's A minor:
e-----------------8--12--8-------------------------------------
B------------10-------------10---------------------------------
G---------9----------------------9------------------------------
D-----10----------------------------10-------------------------
A--12-----------------------------------12--------------------
E---------------------------------------------------------------
You see, it plays a chord in a C-shape. Also, the reason why it's called sweep pick is because you're like strumming the chord; but instead, you're "sweeping" it. There are other of sweeping patterns (like the A-shaped, the G-shaped, the E-shaped, etc.), but this is the most popular pattern, so let's just practice this first and we'll learn the others next time. Ok? so practice this, I know, it's hard... But I tell you... When you learn it, it's a prestige... :)
